Abdul Baba Rahman’s move to Chelsea hasn’t really worked out to date and on the evidence of this own goal, it may never do.
The Ghana international is currently on loan in the Bundesliga with Schalke after moving to Stamford Bridge from Augsburg in a £14million deal.
He’s made eight appearances in Germany’s top flight since his summer switch but he had a bit of a shocker in their DFB Pokal clash on Wednesday night.
The left-back attempted to clear a shot by Nuremberg playmaker Tobias Kempe but the ball bounced off him in disastrous fashion and nestled into the back of the net.
Fortunately for Baba, his error wasn’t costly as Schalke progressed to the next round with a 3-2 win.
Goals from Yevhen Konoplyanka and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar proved enough to see them through.
But with Marcos Alonso making the left-back spot his own, Chelsea fans probably won’t be in a hurry to see 22-year-old Baba returning any time soon…
